Good bye Summer, Hello Fall

The Douglasville Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) had a busy summer this year! We will post soon to let you know all the awesome activities that await you in the coming months, but first – let’s take a look back over the events that took place in Douglasville this summer, hosted by the Douglasville CVB.

Dr DJ and Margaret shopping at Arbor Place Mall

We kicked the summer off with our Summer Scavenger Hunt that encouraged residents and visitors alike to get to know their community, by taking photos with various landmarks and notable locations throughout Douglasville/Douglas County.

We had many great entries and hoped everyone enjoyed getting to take a closer look at their community! A big thank you to everyone who participated!

On August 20th the Douglasville CVB hosted the first Behind the Veil “Fall” Bridal Showcase, at the Douglasville Conference Center. We had over 35 vendors that provided attendees with information on various wedding necessities from DJ’s, event planners, tuxedo’s & wedding dresses, photographers, and so much more!

Thank YOU!We wrapped up the summer with our Annual Family Reunion Workshop, September 9th at Hunter Park. We had over 50 people attend this year’s event. Each person in attendance was given an opportunity to speak with the vendors in attendance and ask questions to gain valuable suggestions and information, as they begin planning their reunions. In addition to speaking with the vendors, a “How to Plan your Reunion 101” presentation was also given during the event. The day was capped off by a catered lunch from Chick-Fil-A Arbor Place, and giveaways!

Be on the lookout in the coming weeks for information on the community events that will take place this fall in Douglasville!

The Douglasville Convention and Visitors Bureau to Host National Travel and Tourism Week

The 2017 National Travel and Tourism Week is all about celebrating the power of travel, and the people who help make tourism a billion dollar industry. This year’s theme shines a spotlight on the power of travel by recognizing the millions of people who keep this industry strong. This year’s theme has been coined, “the Faces of Travel.” To get into the spirit, the Douglasville Convention and Visitors Bureau will highlight individuals, groups and organizations that help support tourism within the community.
“During National Travel and Tourism Week the Douglasville CVB will host various ongoing activities and promotions,” said Samantha Rosado, Tourism Program Manager. “This will include giveaways and Faces of Travel stories, along with Travel Rally Day and Discover Douglasville Day.”
National Travel and Tourism Week—which will take place this year May 7-13—is an annual tradition for the U.S. travel community, established by a congressional resolution in 1983 and first observed the following year. It’s a time when travel and tourism professionals across the country unite to celebrate the unique value travel holds for the economy, businesses and personal well-being. According to the Georgia Department of Economic Development, the Tourism industry in Georgia is the 5th largest employer in the state with a total economic impact of $59 billion, supporting more than 439,000 jobs, or 10.3% of all payroll employment in Georgia. Taxes of $3 billion were directly and indirectly generated by tourism in 2015.

“We look forward to participating in this annual event and getting our residents involved in all the fun festivities,” said Rosado. “We will be hosting a screening of “The Founder”, which several scenes were shot right here in Douglasville. The event festivities will take place Friday, May 12 at 7 pm in downtown Douglasville, followed by the screening of “The Founder” at dusk.”

New Year, New Look for Douglasville Convention & Visitors Bureau

As 2017 kicks into full gear, the Douglasville CVB is excited to announce its brand new look! First up was our new logo, seen below!

6Douglasville CVB Quarterly newsletter subscribers, got a sneak peek at the logo, before the official launch to the public, on January 27th.

“The goal with the new logo was to create a fun, inviting and vibrant image that made you want to learn more about our community & to create an atmosphere, ‘Where You’re Always Welcome,'” said Samantha Rosado, Tourism Program Manager, for the Douglasville Convention & Visitors Bureau.

“In addition to the new logo, brand new marketing materials and a fresh look to the Douglasville Welcome Center are also expected later on this year. Also, be on the lookout for new retail items that will be available for purchase in the Douglasville Welcome Center, later on this summer,” said Rosado.

Keeping will all things ‘new,’ the 2017 Official Georgia Travel Guides hit shelves recently at the Douglasville Welcome Center, as well as the brand new Douglas County Community Guide published by the Douglas County Chamber of Commerce.

Each year, the Official Georgia Travel Guide has different themes, and due to the great popularity of filming in the state of Georgia over the past few years, the theme for 2017 is “The Year of Film.” Pick up a copy the next time you’re in downtown Douglasville, to learn about all the filming that has taken place throughout the state of Georgia, as well as right here in Douglasville/Douglas County!
